pROSSIE – Emma May LaForty, age 88, died on February 2, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Antwerp under the care of her loving family and hospice./ppThere will be a graveside service at the Oxbow Cemetery on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David Sheppard officiating. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com./ppEmma was born on December 27, 1927 in the town of Macomb on the Bill Parker farm, a daughter of the late Guy and Irene (Dunn) Fleming. She attended the local country school in Wegatchie and graduated from Gouverneur High School with the Class of 1944./ppShe married Franklin LaForty, son of the late Everett and Emma (Campbell) LaForty, on October 6, 1945 at the Antwerp Methodist parsonage by the Rev. Howard Woodsman. Franklin passed away on August 7, 2009. Mrs. LaForty and her husband owned and operated a farm for over 65 years on County Route 10, Redwood NY. She also drove bus for the LaForty Bus Lines. Emma was a member of the Rossie Presbyterian Church and the Una Rebekah Lodge which she joined in March 1946./ppShe is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Douglas and his companion, Anna Sides, of Gouverneur, Donald and Janet of Oxbow, two daughters and a son-in-law, Evelyn Horton and her fiancé, Gene Villeneuve of Gouverneur, Kelly and Michael Countryman of Antwerp; a brother, Everett and Kathleen Fleming of Edwards; and a long time friend of the family, Lane Turnbull. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews./ppShe is predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Edwin and Guy, sister, Evelyn, and sister-in-law, Eleanor Fleming./ppIn lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Rossie Presbyterian Church, Oxbow Fire Department or the Oxbow Cemetery Association./p
