pCRANBERRY LAKE – Charles E. Martin, II, formerly of Cranberry Lake, passed away on February 4, 2016 in Pleasant Hill, CA./ppThere will be a graveside service in the Cranberry Lake Cemetery on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are with French Family Funeral Home, Star Lake. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. /ppCharles was born in Cambridge, MD on September 9, 1931 to the late Charles E. and Louise (Carr) Martin. He graduated from Duke University with a Masters in Forestry Management. /ppMr. Martin served in the United States Army for two years. He was Honorably discharged in April of 1963. He married Elsie Elizabeth “Betty” Ford. She predeceased him. A previous marriage to Mary Ann Vaughn ended in divorce. /ppMr. Martin was a professor at the SUNY ESF Ranger School in Wanakena for 30 years. Charles loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking the High Peaks, climbing Bear Mountain every morning he could, cross-country skiing, and traveling. He spent the warmer months on Cranberry Lake and his winters in South Carolina./ppHis survivors include his daughter and her spouse, Laura Martin and Collette Grube of Concord, CA; his son and his wife, Charles Martin III and Susanne of Charlotte, NC; three step-sons, Mark Friden of Star Lake, Phillip and Marilyn Friden of MA, Peter and Deborah Ford of FL; and a sister, Shirley and Lou Sheckler of NC. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews./ppDonations in memory of Charles may go to the SUNY ESF Ranger School Endowment, P.O. Box 48, Wanakena NY 13695./p
