Shirley J. Mason

pWEST STOCKHOLM - Shirley J. Mason, 71, passed away peacefully with family by her side, on June 4, 2016 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital./ppShirley was born on July 8, 1944, in the town of Potsdam, to Floyd and Doris J. (LaRose) Gorey. She graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School in 1962. Shirley worked as a candy clerk at Fishman’s, where she met her husband, and later at Montgomery Ward. She was a telephone operator in both New York and California. Shirley retired from NUMED, where she worked in production, making heart catheters and related materials./ppShirley J. Gorey married Alfred F. Mason on August 27, 1966, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Norwood, with Fr. McGuire officiating. Shirley gave birth to their first son in 1967, followed by a daughter in 1971, and another son in 1978. Shirley and Alfred were blessed later in life with seven grandchildren. While her children were young, Shirley enjoyed volunteering in their classrooms at Parishville-Hopkinton Central School. As her children grew, she was faithfully present at both school and extracurricular events. She was always a woman who enjoyed staying busy. Shirley enjoyed traveling great distances, as well as taking simple car rides around the county with her husband. She enjoyed cooking and everyone loved her fudge, and berry jams and shortcakes. She especially loved spending time with her family, and was always eager for good conversation and willing to share her honest advice. She will be remembered best by those who loved and knew her as a woman of great heart, generosity, strength, and wisdom. /ppHer memory will live on forever and be cherished by all those who have survived her. Shirley J. Mason is survived by her husband, Alfred F. Mason of West Stockholm, NY, three children and their spouses: Alfred F. II and wife Jo Mason of Parishville, NY; Lori J. and husband Matthew White of West Stockholm, NY; and Chad N. and wife Nichole Mason of Winthrop, NY; as well as seven grandchildren: Brad and Amanda Mason; Nicole, Abigail, and Nathan White; and Chad Jr. and Austin Mason. She is also survived by her sister Sandra and husband Tom Regan of Dannemora, NY./ppShirley was predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Doris Gorey./ppThere will be no public calling hours or services, per Shirley’s wishes.
