pWATSON – John Conrad Shumway, 63, passed away at his home on the Number Four Road on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, with his family by his side. /ppJohn was born in Lowville on February 9, 1953, to the late Conrad and Margaret Shumway and was a graduate of Lowville Academy. He was married to Linda E. Turck on September 11, 1976, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church with Rev. Luke Connell O.F.M. officiating. He joined his father in the operation of the family farm in the town of Watson, eventually purchased it from his father and operated it until it was destroyed by fire. He then drove his own dump truck working for Barrett Paving. He also worked part time for Aries Chemical./ppJohn enjoyed racing motorcycles on several tracks in New York and Pennsylvania; riding dirt bikes; cruising on his Harley and riding snowmobile. He very much loved spending time with his grandchildren. /ppHe was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville, a member of the Northern Cruisers and a member of the Lowville Elks BPOE #1605./ppSurviving are his wife, Linda; two children and their spouses: Travis and Sarah of Pittsburgh, PA and Amanda and Matthew Lahr of Panama City, FL; his beloved grandchildren: Maxwell, Vivienne and Ava; his three sisters: Jean Swain of Watson, Nancy Shumway of Syracuse and Joyce and Jeffrey Hoch of Glenfield; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Turck; his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Donald Turck and brother-in-law, Robert Swain./ppA memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 21st at 11:00 A.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Pominville, Deacon officiating.
