pVictor L. Fenske, 76, of Phoenix, AZ. passed away on June 7, 2016, He was born in Shawano, WI in 1939 and lived the first five years of his life near Wittenberg, WI on the family farm in a log house without running water or electricity. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church during the last German service offered by the congregation. He grew up on a dairy farm near Wausau, WI. /ppFenske is survived by his wife Doris (nee) Dickson and four children: Cristie Schnee (Steve), Rebecca Knollhuff (Jeff) and Brent Fenske all of Phoenix. Son Lee Fenske (Lisa) live in Tennessee. Grandchildren are Tiffanie, Cynthia, Victoria, Kimberly, Taylor, Nathan, and Haley and great grandsons Stephen and Trent. He is survived by his sisters -in-law Mary and Virginia and nephews and nieces all of Wausau, WI./ppFenske graduated from Northwestern Prep in Watertown, WI. in 1959. He attended Bethany Lutheran Jr. College and graduated from Mankato State University with a BA in foreign languages and history. He also did advance study in Spanish in Mexico and Spain. At Bethany Lutheran Seminary he pursued the study of Dogmatics, Church History, Greek New Testament, Hermeneutics and Principles of Christian Education./ppFenske taught world history, sophomore religion and foreign languages in Lake Mills, WI for 12 years at Lakeside Lutheran High School. While at Lakeside he initiated a four year Spanish Program. He also implemented a summer program called Project Joy in which he trained students in Spanish so that they were able to canvass and teach vacation Bible school classes in a program that took them to Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico as assistants to the Evangelical Lutheran Synod and Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Missionaries located there. /ppIn 1978 he moved his family to Phoenix, AZ. For the next 24 years his taught at Arizona Lutheran Academy where he was its Publicity Director and taught Journalism, foreign languages and graphic design. While there he spent 7 years teaching a distance learning Spanish program. Through his efforts he initiated and developed a Spanish program in 7 of the 26 WELS Lutheran high schools. He wrote his own Spanish I and II textbook. With a former student he developed a computer assisted program in Spanish and a video grammar program. His journalism classes consistently produced a monthly 50-75 page news-literary-fine arts magazine, Perspectives, which received many awards from Columbia Scholastic Association sponsored by Columbia University in New York. Fenske took a year leave of absence to establish the SCRIP fund raising program at ALA which soon became synod wide. In 1989 he was selected as the runner-up Outstanding Teacher of the Year in Arizona./ppFrom 2002 until 2006 he operated a home remodeling business. Since then he worked as the Head Elder and produced evangelism material promoting Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Peoria, Arizona. He initiated the monthly publication called Reaching Out, wrote an editorial and most of the articles for the 6 page publication until2014. During that time he also wrote a weekly devotion called Cross Connections which was accessible on Cross of Glory’s website. In 2013 he was promoted to Ministerial Assistant./ppA memorial service will be held at Arizona Lutheran Academy at 6036 S. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85041 in Phoenix, AZ on Saturday June 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. and Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service.
