pGOUVERNEUR – Arjoon “John” Singh, age 73, of Gouverneur, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016./ppCalling hours will be held at French Funeral Home on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. with his service immediately following at 3:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. Eric Harblin. After the service there will be a gathering at the River View Recreational Park in Gouverneur./ppJohn was born on August 2, 1943 in Debe, Trinidad-Tobago to the late Gobin and Samdaye Singh. He married Stella (Buffum) Putnam on February 14, 1987 in Bennington, NH. The couple moved to Richville in 1990 and to Gouverneur in 2008./ppJohn worked as a taxi driver on the islands and retired from the New England College in Henniker, NH where he worked as a Custodian. He had also worked as a Nurse’s Aid for the Pheasant Wood Nursing Home in Peterborough, NH. In his free time, John enjoyed fishing, camping and making his grandchildren laugh./ppHis survivors include his wife, Stella Singh; daughter, Jarvie Sookgrim; son Sookraj “K” Singh; step daughters, Susan Putnam, Wanetah Dean, Barbara Hitchcock, Angel Dalton; his brother, Indar Singh-Gobin; and sisters, Narandai “Molly” Jones and Polly “Deedee” Gosine. John is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Nora “Dolly” Singh./ppJohn is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Rambahal “Sastry” Gobin-Singh./ppDonations in memory of John may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
