pMassena: James Robert “Bob” Boscoe, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Massena, NY on Feb. 5, 2016 with his loving family around him. He was born in Canton, NY on Oct 14, 1925. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Leo Boscoe and Jessie Lorena (Bacon) Boscoe, his 2 sisters, his 2 sons, James Robert Boscoe II and Kevin Joseph Boscoe and his wife, Patricia Margaret (Wunsch) Boscoe. He is survived by 5 daughters; Barbara, Deborah and Cindy Boscoe of Tucson AZ, Denise Tyo of Massena, NY and Karen Clemens of Tucson, AZ and by 7 grandchildren. /ppDad was an all around outdoorsman. He grew up in and around Gouverneur, NY where he learned to hunt, trap and fish and developed a love of the outdoors which continued throughout his life. As a young man, he made many trips to remote areas of Canada, hunting and fishing with friends and relatives. He was also extremely athletic. He was a graduate of Gouverneur High School where he excelled at track, basketball, football and baseball. /ppHe was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Navy as a hospital apprentice, stationed at Norfolk, VA. In 1945 he was a volunteer on the “Magic Carpet” mission to cross the Pacific war zone on the USS Wakefield, to deliver replacement Marines to China and bring back Marines and vets of Guadalcanal. Honorably discharged in 1946, he then attended the Albany College of Pharmacy and graduated in 1951. During this time he married and started a family. /ppHe worked as a pharmacist for 35 years, mostly at Kinney’s Drugs in Massena, NY and also at the Massena Memorial hospital. He retired from Carl’s drugs in Gouverneur in 1990. In the late 70’s he was a proprietor of the Massena Outdoor store on Water St. in Massena. /ppHe was well known in the community. For many years, he could be seen about town with his corncob pipe and his old Willys jeep, sometimes on his way to a favorite place, his hunting camp in Owl’s Head, NY. He enjoyed working on it and spending time there with friends and family. There are many memories and stories of the good times at camp. /ppHe loved learning and was an avid reader; a familiar face at the local library. He was serious and studious, but he loved a good laugh and had a quick mind and wit. He had a big voice and loved to sing. Our car trips were never without a family rendition of “You are my sunshine”./ppHe was creative and energetic, self disciplined and methodical. Even in his later years, he lifted weights and exercised every day and he always had a project going. A skilled and meticulous craftsman, he enjoyed working with wood and spent many hours in his shop in the garage. He created many beautiful things; high quality decoys, artistic carvings of waterfowl, beautiful furniture. He could fix anything and was always inventing, modifying or improving something. A friend said he was a jack of all trades and mastered them all! /ppHe was a strong, intelligent, kind man with a big heart and a positive spirit. He was a man of his word. He touched the lives of many people. So many times someone has said how much he helped them in life. /ppHe loved his family and we loved him. He was always there for us. We all learned so much from him. We will miss him greatly. /ppA celebration of his life will be held at his home at 187 Allen St., Massena, NY, from 1-4 PM Sat. Feb. 13, 2016. A graveside service will be held at Calvary cemetery later in the year. /ppDonations can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Highway 11, Potsdam, NY 13676.
