Roger M. Petrie

pRoger Milton Petrie, Star Lake, passed away Sunday, August 21st at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. He was 90 years old. /ppThe funeral will be 1:00pm Thursday, August 25th at the Hawley Funeral Home, Star Lake. Burial with military honors will follow the service at the St. Hubert’s Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the funeral from 12:00 – 1:00pm at the funeral home./ppRoger was born in Ogdensburg September 13, 1925, a son to Frank and Louise Petrie. Following his high school education Roger attended SUNY Canton. /ppRoger enlisted with the United States Navy September 10, 1943. During World War II, he worked as a Electrician’s Mate First Class, serving in the Pacific Theatre. During his service he was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with 1 star, and the Phillippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 star. He was honorably discharged June 3, 1946./ppOn September 16, 1950 he married Anna Marie Shelkowich in Ulster, PA. At the time of his passing the couple had been married for 65 years./ppHe worked at Newton Falls paper and J.L. Steele following his separation from the military. In 1958 Roger became the owner of Eastern Electiric, a job he was still working at at the time of his passing. He was a member of the C.F. Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, V.F.W., and the American Legion Post 1539. He enjoyed music, family, work, and feeding the birds./ppRoger also played trumpet the “Rhythmettes”, and a local Dixie jazz band. /ppSurviving besides his wife, Anna, are his children, Thomas Petrie of Syracuse, Lori and Louis Augliano of Watertown; a grandson, Marc Augliano of Watertown; a brother, Richard and Mary Petrie of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews./ppHe is predeceased by 2 siblings, Ronald Petrie and Ruth Charlton./ppDonations may be made in his name to Star Lakes Rescue Squad or Clifton-Fine Hospital./ppArrangements are with Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Inc./ppOnline condolences may be made at www.reedbenoit.com. /p
