pFuneral service for Lawrence E. LaPoint Sr., 90, of Russell, will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton, with Anne Davis-Harmer, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hermon Cemetery. Lawrence passed on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at home. /ppCalling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at the O’Leary Funeral Home. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Russell Rescue Squad; 5 Pestle Street Road; Russell, NY 13684./ppLawrence is survived by his eight children; Kaye Facey and companion Michael Yerdon of Ogdensburg; Lawrence LaPoint Jr. and wife Laurie of Norwood; Rogene LaRock and husband Gerry of Russell; Margaret “Peggy” Mousaw and husband Jeffrey of Russell; Dennis LaPoint and wife Jeanne of Hermon; Craig LaPoint and wife Toni of Carthage; Rose Matthews and husband Dale of DeKalb Junction and Darr LaPoint of Hermon; by 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Freda Preston and husband Duane of Lake Placid and Erma Gerarde of Syracuse. /ppLawrence is predeceased by his wife Betty LaPoint; by a grandson Michael LaRock and by seven siblings, Clarence LaPoint, Harriet Smith, Leah Kent, Keitha Bigelow, Marilyn Cota, Patricia Streeter and Carlton LaPoint./ppLawrence was born, September 10, 1925 in Pierrepont, the son of the late Earl P. and Erma (Crossman) LaPoint. He graduated from Colton High School in 1942. On November 2, 1951 he married Betty Jean Powers at the home of the Bride’s parents in Pierrepont. Lawrence worked on the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway, he drove bus for Knox Memorial Central School, retiring in 1987 and worked the family farm, retiring in 2007. Lawrence was a member of the Gulf Brook Hunting Club since he was 16 years old.
