pMargaret L. Thomas, 82, and known as “Nana” to many, formerly of Clayton, passed away Sunday evening, September 4, 2016, at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown where she had resided since March 2009./ppThe funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 8, at 11AM at St. Mary’s Church, Clayton with Rev. Arthur J. LaBaff, pastor, presiding and burial will follow in Omar Cemetery. There will be no calling hours and arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton./ppMargaret was born in Clayton on April 15, 1934, daughter of Chester and Dorothy Carter Brown and she attended schools in Clayton. On October 26, 1951 she married Theodore J. Thomas in the rectory of St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Cyril Rapin officiating. Mr. Thomas, an electrician and machinist at New York Air Brake for 25 years, died May 28, 2007./ppShe had worked at Bertrand’s Motel, Frink Snow Plow, and Clayton Manufacturing before becoming a full time homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Colon-Couch American Legion Post 821 and the Clayton Fire Dept. /ppNana was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed sewing, baking, chatting with friends and family and playing cards - especially with her grandchildren. Most generous with love and her incredible cookies, she always put others before herself. Her family was her world, and her devotion flourished while providing day care for her grandchildren - something she loved and enjoyed. Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, she continued to visit with her nurses and make new friends always. Her comforting gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter and joking around will never be forgotten./ppShe is survived by her seven children, Joseph and wife, Linda, Clayton, Stephen and wife, Angela, Clayton, Marcia Stio and husband, Joe, Clayton, Daniel and wife, Carol, Cape Vincent, Virginia Seymour and companion, Michael Skule, Rochester, Kelly Skinner and husband, Scott, Clayton, and Susan Sullivan and companion, Chris Henchy, Cape Vincent; thirteen grandchildren, Terra Bach, Carly Schwarz, Katie Youngs, Ciel, Matt, Eric, Misty, Beth, and Allyson Thomas, Kassi Seymour, Ryan Skinner, and Maura and Aidan Sullivan; step granddaughter, Nicole Stio; four great grandchildren with one on the way and three step grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Reff and husband, Thomas, Altmar and Millicent Viscotha, Groton; sister-in-law, Diane Brown, Depauville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by brother, Merle Brown in infancy, and brother, William Brown./ppIn lieu of flowers, the family wishes any donations to be made to the Samaritan Keep Activities Fund, 133 Pratt St., Watertown, NY 13601.
