Royal J. Phillips

pMr. Royal J. Phillips, age 88 of Potsdam, NY passed away at his home on September 23rd while under the care of his family and the Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. He is now reunited with his wife Betty. Arrangements are with the Garner Funeral Service. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at noon at the Madrid Cemetery with Rev. Stephen Rocker. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley or to the Potsdam Animal Shelter; /ppRoyal is survived by his daughters Carol (Steve) Bisnett of Cranberry Lake, NY; Vicky Bishop of Norfolk, NY; Penny (Douglas) Ayers of Colton, NY; Kelly Phillips and her companion Frank Kaiser of Norfolk and Leane (Scott) Miller of Potsdam; son Denny (Debbie) Phillips of Oley, PA; brother Darwin Phillips of Norwood, NY; sisters Marylou Mitchell of Norfolk, NY and Beverly Bunstone-Martin of Norfolk; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son in law Donnie Bishop; his sister Vera Snyder and brothers Dolan and Yale Phillips. /ppMr. Royal J. Phillips was born on February 18, 1928 in Louisville, NY to the late Henry Phillips and Byo Lawrence. He attended schools all over the North Country. He served in the United States Navy from 1947- 1950. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the States. On July 14, 1949 he was married to Betty Elizabeth Phillips at St. Andrew’s Church in Norwood. He worked for years for Perras Excavating in Massena. He was a member of the Local 545 Operating Engineers. /ppHe was a member of St. Andrew’s Church, the Pony Puller’s Association, the VFW in Potsdam and he was a member of the Hannawa Falls Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his hunting dogs, horses and CB’s were his past time. He was known to all as the “Horse Trade.” He was a loving and caring husband and an outstanding father and friend to many. He will be missed by all./p
