pMary E. Brinkley, 93, of 175 N. Main St., Black River passed September 24, 2016 at the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Carthage where she had resided the past three months./ppBorn on October 27, 1922 in Carthage, NY, daughter of Charles W. and Nora (Woods) Walters, she graduated from Carthage Central School./ppFollowing school she married Bill Wiley, he died while serving in WWII./ppShe then married George J. Brinkley on March 8, 1947 at the St. James Catholic Rectory in Carthage. The couple resided in Black River./ppMrs. Brinkley worked for Farmers Credit in Watertown as an auditor for 20 years, retiring in 1984./ppMr. Brinkley worked at St. Regis Paper Co. from 1943 to 1984 as a stock clerk./ppThe couple enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing in Canada and sports. She was also an avid reader./ppAmong her survivors are her beloved husband of 69 years, George J. Brinkley Sr., Black River; a son and daughter in law, George J. and Jolynne R. Brinkley, Denmark, NY; two daughters and a son in law, Joanne and Ron Van Niel, FL, Barbara Hewitt, TX; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews./ppBesides her parents a brother, Gene Walters and a sister Agatha Walters died before her./ppArrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.
