pMrs. Hilda M. (Taillon) Shampine, 88, Colton, passed away on September 24, 2016 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Hilda was born January 7, 1928 in Cardinal, Ontario. Hilda married Thomas E. Taillon Sr. on May 8, 1947 and the couple moved to Gouverneur in 1950. Thomas Sr. passed away June 9, 1969 and Hilda married William H. Shampine of Colton in 1974. /ppHilda is survived by her sons Thomas E. Taillon Jr & Debbie of Colton, Robert L. & Diane of Madrid, and Timothy P. & Ann Kocher of Norwood; two daughters, Heather O’Hara & John Greenwood of Hannawa Falls, Leota “Annie” and David Butterfield of Potsdam, her sister Ann Hull of Montreal, and stepson Larry Shampine of Colton; her Grandchildren, Kelly & Vickie Taillon, Rob & Avery Taillon, Kyle & Lyette Taillon, Joshua Taillon & Alicia Cote, Sarah & Tim Guy, Bryan O’Hara, Stephanie Taillon, Casey O’Hara, Ashley Taillon, Tim Taillon Jr., Clayton Shampine, Nicole & Kevin Heinle, Justin Butterfield & Julianne Fraser; and her great-grandchildren, Mackenna, Conor, Amos, Alaquin, Aidyn, Kerrington, Izzy, Lily, Charlotte, Lacee, Ray, Lucas, Kira, Devin, Jocelyn, and Jase and numerous neices and nephews. Hilda is predeceased by her husband William Shampine, daughter Hollie M. (Taillon) Storms her son Leo Amos Taillon./ppHilda was an LPN and homemaker who enjoyed painting, photography, playing cards, dancing, quilting, spending time with her family, and her little dog, Hank. She loved to travel and was always on the go – visiting family in Canada. She had a zest for life and got the most out of it. She took classes through the SOAR program at SUNY Potsdam, was an active member of the Colton Seniors, Red Hat Society, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a volunteer for the Parishville Museum, and the Potsdam Humane Society thrift store. She enjoyed playing bridge with her girl friends and was a member of the St. Lawrence County Rock & Mineral Club./ppCalling hours will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 6-9 pm at Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam. Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam on Friday, September 30, 2016 followed by the burial at St. James cemetary in Gouverneur at 1:00 pm. /ppHilda’s laughter, smile, and sunny disposition will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Hilda’s name to the Parishville Rescue Squad, the Potsdam Humane Society or the charity of one’s choice. /p
