pHarrisville- Avis M. Cring, 90, formerly of Harrisville and West Carthage, died Tuesday evening, September 27, 2016 at The Cottages at Garden Grove in Cicero where she has resided for two years. /ppAvis was born February 11, 1926 in Watertown, the daughter of the late Emery and Hatty (Belcher) Chamberlain. She was a 1943 graduate of Watertown High School and a 1947 graduate of Albany State. She received her Masters of Education degree from St. Lawrence University in 1959. She married Richard H. Cring on June 24, 1948. Richard died on January 28, 2004. Avis was a math teacher for the Harrisville Central School District for over thirty years, retiring in 1982./ppAn avid golfer, Avis was a former member of the Carlowden Country Club in Denmark and was active in the Culture Club and Fort Nightly Club, both women’s clubs in Harrisville. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting./ppShe is survived by one daughter: Cheryl A. Andrus of Baldwinsville, two sons: Eugene A. Cring of West Covena, CA and Mark A. Cring of Kansas, 9 Grandchildren, several Great Grandchildren and nieces and nephews./ppShe is predeceased by three brothers, Leo and Gordon and Theron Chamberlain./ppFuneral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 1 at the Harrisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Frances Hemstreet officiating. Burial will follow in Harrisville Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 10:00am until 11:00am.
