Don A. Gladle

pDon A. Gladle, 87, Co. Rt. 159, died November 1, 2016, at Lewis County General Hospital. /ppMr. Gladle was born September 27, 1929, in the Town of Wilna, NY, a son of Harold and Gladys (Bridget) Gladle, he survived two brothers Duncan and Dan both of Carthage. A graduate of West Carthage High School he enlisted in the United States Army October 27, 1950 and was honorably discharged June 14, 1952. On April 5th, 1952 he married Virginia Rowe in Orwell, NY. /ppMr. Gladle owned and operated Gladle Associates in Watertown which included Allied Federated Coop and Dairyman’s Health Insurance programs, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Watertown, Elks Lodge # 1782 in Carthage, The Cosmopolitan Club, and the Black River Valley Club. As an active member of the community, he was a former Secretary for the Republican Party in Jefferson County and served as the Chairman for the Town of Watertown Republican Committee. He also served as Chairman of the Carthage Board of Education, President of the ABC Board of New York, and was an officer on the Board of the 4-H Club. Mr. Gladle was also a member and served for a term as Secretary of the Sweet Pond Hunting Club and served on the Executive Board of Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utica, New York./ppMr. Gladle believed in philanthropy and giving back to the community. He was a long-time supporter of various charities including the Watertown Zoo, Carthage Area Hospital, Disabled Person Action Organization (DPAO) and Hospice of Jefferson County. He also provided two yearly college scholarships to the Lowville Producers Cooperative./ppAn avid hunter, fisherman and boater, Mr. Gladle was an active member of various hunting clubs and Ducks Unlimited. For many years, he enjoyed taking trips on his boat, hunting trips to Canada, and was active in the tennis community./ppHe will be remembered as a devoted husband and father to his wife and children. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia, four daughters and a son; Karen L. Gladle, Syracuse, NY, Marcia (Robert) Dynko, Davidson, NC, Michael (Suzanne), Newark, DE, Kelly Gladle, Charlotte , NC, Vicki (Brian) Cumming GA, and his beloved grandchildren Andrew (Meghan) Gladle, Tyler Gladle, and Chasity Bolick. /ppCalling hours will be Thursday, November 3, 2016, from 4-6:30 PM and Friday 10 – 11:30 AM at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. followed by a funeral at 12:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, Watertown with Reverend Jeffrey Nowak officiating.
