pChampion, NY - Mary E. Bach, 92, of 19212 Bach Road, died peacefully early Saturday morning, November 26, 2016 at her home where she was born on the family farm in the Town of Champion. /ppMary was born on June 19, 1924, the daughter of the late Wolsey and Mary Ellen (Smith) Stoddard. She attended the one room school house near the family farm and later graduated from the West Carthage High School in 1942. She married Robert W. Bach on October 28, 1943 at the Dexter Parsonage. Together they operated their dairy farm on the Bach Road from 1944 until 1980, eventually moving to Watertown for 20 years on Patricia Drive and returned to the Bach Road in 2004. For over 30 years, the couple wintered in Leesburg, Florida. They were very active members of the Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club and Mary received her general license in 1986. Her call number was WB2AC0. Mr. Bach died on September 6, 2013. /ppMary was a voracious reader and journalist, journaling her life on the farm and family history and instilling a love of history to her children. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning, knitting, quilting, baling hay, picking berries, baking pies, cakes, breads, cookies, Christmas breads, boiling maple syrup, feeding her birds, jigsaw and crossword puzzles and entertaining./ppShe was a member of the Second United Methodist Church of Champion, Champion Grange, founding member of the Auxiliary of the Champion Fire Dept., Four Rivers Historical Society, Jefferson Co. Amateur Radio Club and a volunteer at the Trout Lake Nature Center in Eustis, FL. /ppShe is survived by four daughters: Mary Lee Thomas of Liverpool, Sharon A. (Edward) Wilkins of Otter Lake, Mabel J. (Lynn) Bretsch of Champion, and Florence E. Bach of Three Mile Bay, and one son: John W. (Teresa) Bach of Champion, 9 Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren./ppFuneral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 29 at the Second United Methodist Church of Champion with the Rev’s Sung Ah Choi and Tracy L. Cook officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Champion. Calling hours will be on Monday, November 28 from 4-7pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage./ppMemorials may be made to the Second United Methodist Church of Champion, 20336 Co.
