pShirley Mae Mitchell, age 90 of West Kirby St. Dexter passed away Wednesday afternoon at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. /ppShirley was born October 30, 1926 in Utica, NY the daughter of Cecil and Olive Sorge Burrows. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1944 and the Watertown Business School in 1946./ppShirley worked at Agricultural Insurance Co. in Watertown and later worked at Empsall’s Dept. Store; retiring in 1960. /ppShe married Clarence O. Mitchell on October 20, 1946 at the Dexter Presbyterian Church. The couple lived in Dexter where they were also foster parents for over 16 years. Clarence passed away in 2005./ppShirley was a member of the Dexter Presbyterian Church; where he taught Sunday School. She loved her cats, flower gardening, nature walks and crafts. She was also president of Dexter Free Library for 15 years./ppShe is survived by a daughter Melinda and granddaughter Kristine addresses unknown, over 16 foster children and several nieces and nephews./ppThere will be no calling hours or public funeral. Burial will be in the spring at Dexter Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Dexter Presbyterian Church in her memory.
