pBEAVER FALLS – Glenn A. Fredenburg, 92, formerly of State Route 126, passed away Friday morning, February 19, 2016 at the Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, Carthage. All five of his children were able to be with him to give love and support as he made this final journey of life./ppA funeral service will be at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. David Herrmann, Pastor of Beaver Falls United Methodist Church officiating. All are welcome to a Celebration of Life gathering at Iseneker Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Fredenburg and Julie Salazar of Clayton, NY; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his wife, Mary “Dodie” Fredenburg, who died February 8, 1995; an infant daughter Gail Elizabeth Fredenburg; five brothers, Merritt, Earl, Harry, Robert and Jack Fredenburg; three sisters, Erma Chastain, Janet Marolf, and Alice Elmer. Glenn was born on March 25, 1923 at home in Beaver Falls, NY, a son of the late Grover Cleveland “Cleve” and Luella Joyner Fredenburg. He graduated from Beaver River Central School, where he participated in several sports and played trombone in the band. He attended SUNY Cortland majoring in Phys. Ed., until drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in January 1943. He was discharged in December, 1945 with the rank of Staff Sgt. He served as a waist gunner on the B 17, Flying Fortress in the 388th Bomb group. While on his fourth mission, two days before his 21st birthday, his plane was shot down near Barth, Germany, where he was captured and held as a POW for 14 months. He was awarded several medals for his service to his country, including the Purple Heart. On February 7, 1948, he married Mary “Dodie” Donnelly at the Rectory of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville. At that time Mr. Fredenburg, along with his wife, joined his father operating “Fredenburg’s General Store”, in Beaver Falls. The couple owned and operated the general store until 1986 when he retired. He then worked as a postal clerk for the Beaver Falls and Castorland post offices./ppMr. Fredenburg was a member of Beaver Falls United Methodist Church, a member of Lewis County Memorial VFW Post #6912 and American Legion Post 1663. He was an honorary member of the Beaver Falls Fire Department, where he had been an active member for many years./ppMr. Fredenburg was a sports enthusiast throughout most of his life, playing in town leagues of baseball, basketball, bowling and golf.
