On January 7, 2017, John “Sully” Sullivan, 66, of Lakeland, passed away after his battle against cancer. John was born on July 22, 1950, to Clifford and Helen (Stone) Sullivan in Potsdam, NY. In June 1968, John graduated from Potsdam High School, and he moved to Syracuse, NY, where he attended and graduated from Onondaga Community College in May 1971. After earning his Associate Degree in Applied Science for Radio and Television, John worked for the Houston Broadcasting Company in Syracuse as an announcer and programmer. He was known to his audience as Gentlemen John. In 1974, John earned the position of Deputy Sheriff with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department. Throughout his career, John worked in transport and then became head of security at the Justice Center. John retired from the Sheriff’s Office with thirty years of service during which he achieved the rank of Lieutenant.
