John E. Merchant (formerly of Cranberry Lake, NY) passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 24, 2017. He was born in Rochester, NY on February 25, 1932. John lived a remarkable life and was very proud of his children and his accomplishments. He attended the NYS College of Forestry School, in Wanakena. He joined the US A Army and was stationed in the Pusan Korea Port area. He served in the 501st Transportation Harbor Craft Company as a marine diesel engine repair specialist. After an honorable discharge in 1955, John returned to Cranberry Lake, NY and joined his family in building their business, the Cranberry Lake Inn. John was instrumental to bringing Sunday Catholic mass services to serve visitors and parishioners from the surrounding area at the Inn during the summer months. He was a life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 3918, in Vero Beach Florida.
