Janet Davies White

ONTARIO/MORRISTOWN– Janet Davies White, 84, of Ontario, NY, formerly of Morristown, NY, peacefully passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 31, 2017 at the University of Rochester Highlands Hospital, Rochester, NY.

Janet was born October 22, 1932 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of William H. Davies and Dorothy (Witherhead) Davies.

She graduated as Valedictorian, from Morristown Central School, class of 1950, and attended Cornell University.

On October 6, 1951 she married William F. White. They operated a dairy farm on the Black Lake Road for almost thirty-five years until his death in 1986.

She had a special companion, Jim Cooney, of Long Lake, NY for many years from 1989 until his passing in 2010.

Janet was a quilter, having made over one-hundred quilts. She traveled worldwide, loved gardening, was an avid reader, and loved Jeopardy! She loved cats and played bridge.

Janet is survived by her six children: William White and his wife Shirley of Hammond, NY; Stephen White and his wife Kim of Black Lake/Hammond, NY; Carol (White) Smithers and her husband James of Ontario, NY; Paul White and his wife Kaye of Black Lake/Hammond, NY; Ellen (White) Durant and her husband Steven of Charles Town, WV; Neal White and Nada of Morristown, NY. She is also survived by four sisters: Sarah (Davies) Gilmour, Black Lake/Oswegatchie; Margaret (Davies) Wylie, Auburn, NY; Mary (Davies) Petrie, Penfield, NY; Kathryn (Davies) Rodger, Exeter, NH. She has eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday, February 3, 2017, from 5-9 PM at the IslandView Funeral Services, 300 Main Street, Morristown. Condolences, food, photos and flowers can be sent online to www.islandviewfs.com

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the Presbyterian Stone Church, Stone Church Road, Ogdensburg, NY, with Pastor David Hart, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Pine Hill Cemetery in Morristown in the spring.
