WILLIAM C. SHERMAN, 85, POTSDAM, NY, Founding member of the O.F.C.C., “Wild Bill Sherman” left this world peacefully, in his sleep, on February 11th.
Born on November 25th, 1931 to the late Clark and Ruth Sherman in Salamanca, NY, Bill was predeceased by his brother David, grandson Zach Sherman and one great-grandson, Richard. Surviving Bill are his sisters, Marilyn and Gary Campell of Illinois and Linda and Keith Higbee of Wisconsin. His long-time companion, Natalia Stahl, and his children, William Sherman II of Potsdam, Michael Sherman of Parishville, Randy Sherman of Potsdam, Charles Sherman of Parishville, Jessie Sherman of Potsdam and their mother, Manola Sherman of Potsdam and Ben Stahl of California. He has 11 Grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Bill served in the Army during the Korean war as a mail carrier to the front lines. Upon discharge, he attended Clarkson University, but decided on a career with New York Telephone. He worked for the phone company until he retired in 1994.
Upon retirement Bill formed the OFCC and remained President until his death. Natalia wants all to know that the tradition will continue. Coffee’s on.
He was a Mason and a Boy Scout Leader as well as a member of the CWA Union. He enjoyed people and life and to honor this, the family has decided a Celebration of Life gathering will be held this summer.
