Harold G. Chambers

A Funeral Mass for Harold G. Chambers, age 87 of Heuvelton will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday (March 8, 2017) at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church. Entombment will be a Foxwood Memorial Park.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 3:00pm – 7:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Chambers passed away a Claxton Hepburn Medical Center on Wednesday (March 1, 2017) after being stricken at home.

Surviving is his wife of 65 years Eleanor Chambers; three sons Michael (Jenny) Chambers of Penn Yan NY, Stephen Chambers of Ogdensburg and Peter (Amanda) Chambers of Tampa FL; three daughters Cynthia McCaffrey of Baldwinsville, Diane (Mitchell) Mattison of Central Square and Charlene Chambers of Ft. Dodge IA; a brother Kenneth (Margaret) Chambers of Heuvelton; a sister Margaret Chambers of Heuvelton; a brother-in-law Gerald “Dean” Outman of Ogdensburg; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews & cousins.

Harold was predeceased by a son Patrick in 1959; two daughters Angela Smith in 1995 and Patricia Kench in 2001; two brothers John “Jack” Chambers and Arthur J. Chambers; and three sisters Eleanor Cannon, Jeanne Outman and Emma Lou May.

Harold was born on October 8, 1929 in the Town of DePeyster, a son of the late Lloyd & Marie (Kelly) Chambers. He graduated from Heuvelton High School in 1946 and continued his education at Canton ATC. He later married Eleanor Link in 1952 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church.

He began his career at Kay-Fries Chemical Plant in Haverstraw NY until 1949 when he relocated to the North Country and purchased his farm in Heuvelton. While continuing to operate a dairy farm, he also worked at Seedway Inc., in sales, and part-time at Heuvelton Lumber Co. and Riverside Veneer Co.

Harold was a member of St. Raphael’s Church where he was a board member for 25 years and was also the DePeyster Assessor for 29 years. He enjoyed reading, listening to music, making cider with family and area school students, maple syrup, traveling, dancing and being around his family.
