Harrisville – Mr. Neil E. Hooley, 79, of Harrisville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Lewis County General Hospital, where he was in the company of family.
Neil is survived by four children, Neil Jr. (Tammy) of Fowler; Portlyn (Thomas) Macagg; Eugene (Carrie) and Michael (Danielle), all of Harrisville, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, a sister, Jeannie Marola of Auburn, his Jack Russel Terrier, Jake as well as several nieces and nephews.
Neil is predeceased by his Louise, his parents, Eugene and Martha Hooley, by brothers, Arlington, Robert and Morris Hooley and sister, Bernice Ripley.
Neil was born July 30, 1937 in Harrisville, the son of Eugene and Martha (Waugh) Hooley. He attended Harrisville Schools until he joined the US Air Force. Upon his return from service, Neil married Patricia A. Rose, the mother of his four children. The marriage ended in divorce. On October 13, 1979, Neil was married to Louise Bush in Croghan. Neil worked at the local paper mills and mining operations, prior to becoming a truck driver for various firms prior to becoming an independent driver with Teamsters Local 398 of Syracuse.
Neil enjoyed seasonal activities such as hunting, ice fishing and motorcycles and he loved his dogs, Jake and Benji.
Calling hours for Neil will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Harrisville, followed by a joint memorial service for Neil and Louise at 7:00pm with Rev. Donald Manfred, officiating. Burial in the spring will be in St. Francis Solanus Cemetery, Harrisville.
