Waddington: David Lee Thayer, 73, passed away on Friday evening (March 17, 2017) at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Waddington. Burial will take place in the spring at Hermon Cemetery.
David was born on November 22, 1943 in Gouverneur, NY , the son of Arthur and Ida (Bowman) Thayer. He attended Gouverneur Schools. David went to work in Newton Falls at the Paper Mill for many years as a machine operator and loved to hunt, fish all around the North Country. He also like to frequent the Casino and enjoyed his daily trips to the diner to visit with his friends.
He is survived by his children, Penny and husband Charles Smart of Fulton, NY; David Thayer and partner Ken DellaCorte of Monroe, CT; Steven and wife Mary Thayer of Waddington, NY: Scott Thayer and companion Jessie Rabetoy of Watertown, NY; Sherie Coules of Las Vegas, NV: Michael Thayer and wife Pam of Ogdensburg, NY; many grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings, Barbara Backus of Hailsboro, NY; Beverley Lavare of Moria, NY: Sally Belmore of Norwood, NY; and Robert and wife Linda Thayer, Hermon, NY, many nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his four siblings, Richard, Paul and Kenneth Thayer, and Marylou Dukett.
