MASSENA – Mrs. Dorothy I. Konkoski, 97, of Grassmere Terrace, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, March 19, 2017 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
Dorothy was born January 21, 1920 in Cornwall, Ontario, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Irene (LaVigne) Hartle and attended schools in Potsdam. On August 6, 1938, she married Charles J. Konkoski at St. Mary’s Church in Massena. He predeceased her on June 22, 1996.
Dorothy worked for a time at Carey’s Jewelers in Potsdam before going to Warner Brothers Corset Factory in Massena. She later worked for Wylie’s Supermarket in Massena, before starting the bookkeeper and clerk at Peets Jewelers in Massena, where she remained for many years until her retirement. Dorothy and her late husband also owned and operated Red Barrell Antiques for many years. Dorothy was very active in TOPS for many years serving as their secretary. She was an avid quilter and supported her grandchildren in their sporting events throughout the years. Dorothy held the greatest love and dedication for her precious grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Bonnie Konkoski of Norwood; her 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; her brothers, Gordon Hartle of Potsdam and Gervais Hartle of Connecticut; her sister-in-law, Carol Hartle of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by a son, Charles John “Jack” Konkoski in 1954 at the age 13; her brother, Frederick G. “Ted” Hartle; and three sisters, Barbara McCallum and Theresa Berger and Fern Androkitis.
There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
