The prayer service for Louise H. Horning will be 10:15 am Thursday, April 13th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home followed by an 11 am funeral service at Holy Family Church with Rev. Steven Murray officiating. Burial will follow in North Watertown Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, April 12th from 4 pm – 7 pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home.
Mrs. Horning, 90, of Watertown, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 9th, was reunited with her husband on the day that would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.
She is survived by two sons Ronald (Tanna), LaFargeville and Thomas, Watertown; three daughters Karen Loftus (Len Edus), Watertown, Marcia (Mark) La Forest, Theresa, and Brenda (Larry) Dorr, Black River; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Jane Godfrey and two brothers Edward and David Metz.
Louise was predeceased by her son-in-law Joseph Loftus in November of 1992.
She was born in Watertown, April 14, 1926, a daughter to Howard and Helen Browski Metz. After her high school education, Louise graduated from Plattsburg State Teaching College in 1947. Following her graduation, she worked as a Registered Nurse at the House of the Good Samaritan (now Samaritan Medical Center) and later at the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center.
Louise married Wellington “Lucky” Horning April 9, 1947 at Holy Family Church. Mr. Horning, a retired City of Watertown policeman, died February 20, 2003.
Louise was a member of Holy Family Church, the Samaritan Loyals and the Plattsburg Alumni Association. She enjoyed camping, gardening, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and her independence to go and do what and when she wanted to in her later years.
