Canton-- Lee “Bill” Pierce, 80, of Schoolhouse Road, Canton, died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at his home while under the care of his loving family and Hospice and Palliative Care.
Bill was born July 13, 1936, in the Town of Pierrepont, a son of the late Lee A. and Margaret Briggs Pierce, and was a 1954 graduate of Norwood High School.
Bill enlisted in the in the US Air Force, August 17, 1954, served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He went on to retire from the military having served an additional 20+ years in the Army Reserves. He had been employed as a car salesman and owned a computer store, but was most proud of his military service.
On March 28, 1959, he married his beloved Florence Butterfield in the Canton United Methodist Church with Rev. A. Leslie Potter as celebrant.
Bill was involved with the Boy Scouts throughout his life, first as a member and Scoutmaster in Norwood, and then as a committee member of the Boy Scouts Troop 27 in Canton. He was also a member of the American Legion in Norwood.
Surviving are his wife Florence of Canton; two daughters, Lisa (Daryl) Mercadel of Rochester and Lesly (companion Gary) Scott of Canton; three grandchildren, Travis Pierce of Canton and Katie & Michael Mercadel of Rochester; brothers Douglas Pierce with wife Patricia and Benjamin Pierce. He was predeceased by his son Lee Steven Pierce in 1987.
He enjoyed photography, history, playing solitaire, and working on computers, but was best known for being an expressive story teller and loving to spend time with friends and family.
A private graveside service will be held at the Crary Mills Cemetery on June 3rd at 11am.
