Helen C. Mullen

Helen C. “Honey” Mullen, 95 of Dexter, passed away at Hospice at Ellis Farm Thursday morning with her family at her side.

Helen was born January 30, 1922 in Little Falls, NY the daughter of Michael and Mary Gaffney Carraher Jr. She graduated from Canton High School and joined the Marine Corps in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945 as a sergeant.

Helen married Paul J. Mullen on April 12, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton, NY where she was working as a Medical Transcriptionist at E.J. Noble Hospital in Canton.

The couple moved to Dexter where they have continued to live. Paul passed away April 11, 2015.

Helen was a member of General Brown Board of Education for 16 years, Dexter Fireman’s Auxiliary President, Dexter Citizen of the Year in 1986 along with her husband, Dexter Citizens’ Committee, Dexter American Legion, Marine Corps League, and Immaculate Conception Church of Brownville.

As a school board member she had the privilege & honor to present her children and grandchildren with their High School diplomas.

Surviving are five children and their spouses: Martha and Michael Heise of Dexter, James and Rebecca Mullen of Port St. Lucie, FL., Michelle and Joseph Roukous of Dexter, Patrick and Diane Mullen of Watertown and Daniel and Wendy Mullen of Williamsburg, VA. She has ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 2nd at Immaculate Conception Church, Brownville with Fr. Michael Gaffney officiating at 11:00 am. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-8 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery with military honors.
