Jean Anne Pennock

pJean Anne Pennock, 80, lifelong resident of Sackets Harbor, passed away Friday March 4th at University Hospital in Syracuse./ppThe memorial service will be 11 am Monday, March 7th at the United Presbyterian Church in Sackets Harbor with Pastor Melodie Long presiding. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Sackets Harbor later in the spring. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jean’s name to the United Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are with the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown./ppJean is survived by her 4 children, Catherine A. (Edward L.) Rohr, Brantingham; Donna M. (Rod) Bushey, Malone; Mary I. Pennock and David L. Pennock, both of Sackets Harbor; her grandchildren Jessica (Brian) Rohr Robbins, Makesha McDonald, Micah McDonald, Jeremiah (Catherine) Rohr, Dylan McDonald, Dylan Drimmer, Maya Pennock, Lydsie Bushey; 3 great grandchildren Collin, Colton and Abigail Robbins; nieces and nephews. Two brothers Robert and Donald Potter predeceased her. A son-in-law Lawrence McDonald predeceased her in 1996 at age 41./ppShe was born in Theresa October 17, 1935, a daughter to Richard and Ava Danough Potter. She graduated from Watertown High School in January 1954. Jean continued her education with her associates degree from JCC in 1969, her bachelor’s degree in 1971 from Oswego and her Master’s in Education from Potsdam State in 1974./ppIn her early years, Jean worked at Whelan’s Drug Store from 1953-1954, and Calavo Growers of California from 1962-1967. Mrs. Pennock was a 3rd grade teacher in the Watertown School District for 25 years retiring in 1995. Jean also worked at Wal-Mart from 1992-1995./ppShe married Lynn Clair Pennock July 10, 1954. He passed September of 1992./ppJean was an accomplished organist and was a 39 year volunteer organist at the United Presbyterian Church in Sackets Harbor as well as a church deacon and elder. She was an accompanist for Peggy Stone’s Dance school from 1949-1953. Jean was a Girl Scout Leader, a 4-H leader and a Sunday school teacher./ppJean was a 50 year member of the Brownville-Jefferson Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as past District Deputy Grand matron for the district. She was a life member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association and a member of the NYS United Teachers Retirees./ppJean served on the supervisory committee and was a board member at the Northern Federal Credit Union for 42 years./ppJean enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cruises, bird watching and was a member and frequent player with the Northern NY Duplicate Bridge Club. Most of all Jean touched the lives of all who were lucky to have known her.
