Edwin H. Krupkin, 80, formerly of Watertown, passed away at his home in Zephyrhills, FL on Sunday, May 14, 2017.
The funeral will be held at Degel Israel Synagogue on Sunday, May 21, with Anita Brown, Lay Leader, presiding at 10AM with burial following in the synagogue’s cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.
Eddie was born in Watertown on October 3, 1936, son of Louis and Ora Ruth (Gittleman) Krupkin. He was a graduate of Watertown High School and Canton ATC. He served in the Army Reserves as a military policeman.
On September 8, 1966 he married Patricia Davis in Watertown and she passed on April 6, 1991. Eddie later married Patricia J. (LaChance ) Carbone on April 25, 1997 at the Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
For 52 years he was the owner and operator of the Apex Army & Navy Store on Public Square until his retirement in 2009. The family business had been started in 1897 by his grandfather, Benjamin Krupkin, on Court St. and later operated by his father, Louis. He had been a member of Degel Israel Synagogue, Kiwanis Club of Watertown, Downtown Business Association, American Legion Post 61’s Color Guard, and Cosmopolitan Dance Club. In his early years, Eddie was a YMCA State Wrestling Champion and later in life he participated in various 5K and 10K races. Golf was his passion and he had also been a member of the Watertown Golf Club. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren, his dogs, and his wife, Pat. Eddie will always be remembered for his generosity to his customers, his friends, his community, and his family.
Along with his wife, Pat, Eddie is survived by his two children, Stephen D. Krupkin and wife, Elizabeth, Evanston, IL and Nicole Harrington and companion, Michael McCarty, Watertown; his wife’s three children, Carmen Carbone and wife, Katrina, Watertown, Donald Carbone, Zephrhills, FL, and Angela Clanton and husband, Art, Annapolis MD; eleven grandchildren; his brother, Sidney Krupkin and wife, Susan, Sarasota,FL; his sister, Carole Koenig and husband, Harvey, Syracuse; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His brother, Stuart, and a stepson Christopher Wilson both died before him.
