Mary T. Soares

Mary T. Soares, 100, formerly of So. Pleasant Street, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Samaritan Summit Village, where she has been a resident.

Mrs. Soares was born March 11, 1917 in Oswego, NY, daughter of Joseph and Pasqualina Signorelli Lettiere. She attended Cooper Street School and North Junior High School until she was needed at home to help with her younger siblings. On April 29, 1944 she married Joseph J. Soares at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Benoit Dostie officiating. Mr. Soares died December 29, 1980. When Mrs. Soares was employed she was a waitress at Dantes Restaurant and a seamstress for Model Homes. She retired in her mid 50’s.

Mary was a communicant of Holy Family Church, a volunteer for the church and a member of the Legion of Mary. During WWII she was a volunteer for the USO. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing, especially making quilts. And true to her Italian heritage, she enjoyed preparing her Sunday pasta dinners for the family- her sons-in-law will attest to the perfection of her sauce and meatballs. Mary was thrilled to celebrate her 100th birthday on March 11 th, attended by made of her family and friends.

Mary’s family would like to express their thanks to the 3rd floor, A Wing, staff at Samaritan Summit Village for the compassionate care they gave their mother.

Surviving are a son, Joseph, who Mary was devoted to, Watertown, NY, three daughters, Lucy and Josef Baier, Gastonia, NC, Pasqualina (Patty) and John Spicer, Watertown, Ann Marie and Thomas McCann, Hernando Beach, FL and Three Mile Bay, NY, three brothers, John L., Holiday, FL, Carl L., Sackets Harbor, NY, William (Rene), Melborne, FL, three sisters, Grace Squicciarini, Watertown, Angela (Nick) Bombardo, Leesburg, FL, Anne Conto, Watertown, NY, nine grandchildren, Lori, Chari, Dawn, Josef, Shawn, Christopher, Jessica, Crista and Thomas, ten great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Friday, May 19, 2017 from 4-7pm at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held Saturday at 9:15 am at the funeral home with a funeral mass to follow at 10 am at Holy Family Church with Reverend Steven Murray officiating.
