Stephen D. Cornell

Stephen D. Cornell, 45, 846 Cooper Street, passed away May 23, 2017 at the Samaritan Medical Center.

Stephen was born June 8, 1971 in Watertown, son of Stephen and Suzann Alberry Cornell. He graduated from Brushton Moira High School. Stephen attended Jefferson Community College and Canton ATC for Fire Science and Advanced Life Support training.

Stephen was a firefighter and EMT for the Town of Watertown Fire Department and Ambulance. He volunteered for the Three Mile Bay Fire Company Inc and has been a first responder for 24 years and a firefighter for 26years. Steven was involved with the Northern Ambulance, Malone Fire Department, Massena Fire and Rescue, Calcium Fire Department, Evans Mills Ambulance, Seaway Valley Fire Department, Chaumont Fire Department, Lewis County Search and Rescue, Depauville Fire Department, Guilfoyle Ambulance, Middletown Ambulance and Fire Department, and Westville Fire Department. Stephen joined other firefighters in NYC during 9/11. He was a volunteer with the American Red Cross in 1993 helping the victims of the Missouri floods and again in 1994 aiding people in the Los Angeles, California Earth Quake.

As a dedicated firefighter he belonged to Fireman’s Association of the State of New York. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, spending time with his daughter Susan and his friends. His favorite firefighting training was water ball.

Besides his parents he is survived by a daughter, Susan R. Cornell, Three Mile Bay, two brothers, Spencer P. (Wendy), Chaumont, Sean R. (Angel), Shippensburg, PA, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4-7pm at the Three Mile Bay Fire Co. Inc. A funeral service will be held Friday at 1pm at the Three Mile Bay Fire Co. Inc. with Reverend Sam Lundy, Fire Chaplin, officiating. Burial will be at New Cedar Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Three Mile Bay Fire Co.
