EVANS MILLS — Maurice A. “Marty” Taylor, 75, of Goulds Corners Rd., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County, Watertown, NY.
Born on June 18, 1941 in Ogdensburg, NY, he was a son of Glenn and May Spicer Taylor and graduated from Canton High School in 1959.
Mr. Taylor was a paramedic in the US Air Force from August 1959 to August 1963. On November 9, 1963 he married Petrea A. Green at the Wesleyan Church, Colton, NY.
Following his military service he was employed in the management division of Agway Petroleum, Glen Park, NY for 21 years until retiring in 1989. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor are both taxidermists. They have owned and operated Marty’s Taxidermy, Evans Mills, NY since 1981.
The couple are members of the Empire State Taxidermy Association, New York State Taxidermy Association and the National Taxidermy Association, as well as the Owl Mountain Hunting Club, Malone, NY and the Life Church of the Nazarene, Watertown, NY, where Mr. Taylor served as trustee, a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Watertown, NY. He was also a member of the Jefferson County Fishery Advisory Board and the board of directors of the Empire State Taxidermy Association.
Mr. Taylor was a certified Boone and Crockett Club Official Measurer. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his grandchildren and watching their sports events, NASCAR, the Giants, his church fellowship and spending time with family and friends at their camp on Moon Lake.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Petrea; four daughters and four sons-in-law, Cherie and Terry Jones, Brownville, NY, Debbie and Bryan Fazio, Watertown, NY, Cindy and Lonnie Johnson, Loganville, GA, Tina and Michael Hewitt, Philadelphia, NY; ten grandchildren, Crystal, Josh and Taylor Jones, Zack, Bryanna and Bryce Fazio, Stephen, Jayanna and Jaylen Johnson and Hunter Hewitt; four great-grandchildren, Chayse Griffin, Lily, Archer and Ruby Jones; six brothers, Everett, Duane, Roger, James, David and Glenn, Jr.; three sisters, Kim Basford, Annette Rover and Brenda Preston; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
His loving parents and three brothers, Donald, Richard and Bruce passed away previously.
Funeral Services will be 11 am Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Life Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Robert Tharp and Rev. Walter MacPherson officiating. Burial will be 3 pm at Beech Plains Cemetery, Plains Rd., Canton, NY.
Calling hours will be 9-11 am at the church prior to the service.
