Scott E. Purcell, 58, of Watertown and formerly of Clayton, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 320 John St., Clayton on Friday, June 16, from 6 - 8PM. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Saturday, June 17, at 1PM with Pastor Donald Briant presiding followed by burial in Clayton Cemetery.
Scott was born in Alexandria Bay on May 12, 1959, son of the late Robert E. and B. Virginia Scott Purcell. He received his IEP. Diploma from Watertown High School in 1980. He performed custodial work at Ft. Drum and at Production Unlimited. He additionally worked at JRC Recycling Center.
Scott was an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, WPBS public auction, Children’s Miracle Network, and Meals on Wheels. Highlights of his life included his janitorial crew at Ft. Drum receiving the NISH Award and his participation in Special Olympics where he won many medals in track and swimming. He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, Buffalo Bills, and Syracuse Orangemen; also enjoying vacations, music, swimming, and dancing. Known by many, he had a smile that could light up a room.
He is survived by his brother, Robert E. Purcell, Jamesville; five sisters, Judy L. Haberer and husband, Raymond Arcade, Karen S. Amico and husband, Ross, Victor, Lou Ann Clark and husband, Guy, Gunns Corners, Lynette E. Knapp and husband, David, Ontario, and Elysia M. “Tish” Purcell, Churchville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Scott’s family wants to express their deep gratitude to the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center. The compassion, love, and attention Scott received from the staff at his JRC homes on Massey St. and Gaffney Dr. will forever be appreciated.
