Phyllis Jewett Wingerath passed away peacefully on June 13, 2017. Born in Clarks Summit, PA in 1928 as Phyllis Claire Jewett.
As a child, she became endeared to Butterfield Lake in Redwood, NY as a summertime visitor. In 1949 she married Donald Y. Wingerath (1925-2013), a resident of Redwood. The marriage ceremony took place at Abington Ledge on Butterfield Lake, the very site that she would become a year-round resident from 1982 on.
Phyllis earned two degrees, BA and MA, from Syracuse University. She was a teacher in Clayton, NY grade school and later became librarian at the Indian River High School serving more than 25 years. She was a world traveler, a bridge playing master, an avid reader, and a jig-saw puzzle enthusiast. Phyllis is predeceased by her son Charles Thomas and survived by children Fred, Douglas, and Ann Leslie, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
