Doris Arlene Longway

Doris was born April 9, 1929, to George and Harriet (Joles) Longway in Brownville, NY and died November 18, 2016. She graduated from Copenhagen Central School and Watertown School of Commerce. Initially, her jobs were secretarial and bookkeeping. Later she drove school bus, owned and ran the Rainbow Lodge motel and managed Longway’s Diner. She also ran the home farm in Watertown, raising beef cattle. Doris was also a long distance parts courier for local factories. A highlight of her life was a trip to Europe with her daughter Sharmaine which included a visit to the Vatican.

Doris is survived by three daughters, Cindy Simpson Trautmann, of Austin, Texas, Sherry (Glenn) Simpson Herdman, of Angelica, and Sharmaine Simpson Moody (Rob) of Alameda, CA. She is also survived by two grandsons, Jeremy Trautmann and Jay Moody; step-granddaughter, Talia (Boris) VanDruff; and one great-grandson. Other survivors include two sisters, Harriet Moulton of Charleston, S.C, and Bettie Sprague of Watertown, N.Y.; as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by dear friends, including the Davidson family and Janice Riley.A marriage to Ken Simpson ended in divorce. Doris will be remembered as an extremely hard worker, for her love of animals and for her knitting skills.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 8 at 4:00 pm at the Jetty Funeral at 512 James St. in Clayton. Please RSVP by email (jayzmomm@yahoo.com) or phone (510.757.9655). Donations may be made to the animal charity of your choice or to the Patient Activity Fund of Manor Hills,(4192B Bolivar Hills Rd., Wellsville, NY 14895) where she resided at the time of her death.
