Mary Jane Nelson - age 84, formerly of Potsdam/Parishville died June 17 at the NYS Veterans Home in Batavia NY. Arrangements are with the Garner Funeral Service. Condolences can be shared @www.garnerfh.com.
Mary is survived by her daughters,Fran and Tony Dorminy of Hawaii, Nancy and Warren Savage of Bergen N.Y. , Judy and Owen Ogle of Cordell, OK., Diane and Jerry Hayes of Parishville N.Y.
Step Children, Chris Caringi and David and Linda Nelson of Parishville. Her sisters Barbara Pagliaro of Long Island and Leita Pratt of Plattsburgh, NY.
Mary is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews that she loved dearly.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Melvin J. Nelson. Her daughter Bobbi Jo Bastedo. Her sister Grace Harriman, her brothers, Charles, Harry and Ted .
Mary was born April 28, 1933 to the late Gordon and Anna Stone Hughes.
She graduated from Potsdam High School and served her country by enlisting in the United States Air Force.
She worked as a waitress in several diners and also worked for Kinney Drugs and retiring from there. Mary was an avid bowler and also coached junior bowling leagues. She was active in her local VFW post.
She loved spending time outside gardening and going for walks and especially loved being with her family.
Her laughter and sense of humor endeared her to many folks that had the pleasure of meeting her.
