Rose M. Shearman

Rose Marie Shearman, 86, passed away Saturday, June 24th at Hospice at Ellis Farm, Watertown where she has resided since April. Rose was born March 29, 1931 in Theresa, the daughter of Harry and Ruth Meeks Cox. She graduated from the LaFargeville Central School in 1948, Watertown School of Commerce and Jefferson Community College. In 1949, Rose began her career working for Mayor Henry Hudson. Further employments were Merrill Bigness & Taylor, Attorneys-at-Law, the Hon. George G. Inglehart, Watertown City Court Judge, and left in 1968. In 1968-1970, she was employed at Bomax, 1970-1973, Wager Construction, 1973-1976, Gould, Inc. 1973-1976, and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office as a Confidential Secretary 1976-1991. In 1991, she retired from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. She was a long-time active member of the National Secretary’s Association.

Rose married Vernon Staie in 1951. That marriage ended in divorce. She re-married Robert Shearman, who passed away in 1972.

Rose enjoyed camping, reading, knitting and crocheting, music and her beloved dogs. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Dennis (Debbie) Staie of Theresa; son-in-law, Terry Towe of Morristown; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Joseph) King of Watertown, and Erik Staie and his companion, Amber Polk of Theresa, and Adam Staie; four great grandchildren, Katelynn Goyette of Watertown, Aleigh and Carly Staie of LaFargeville, and Athan King of Watertown. Also surviving is her long-time companion, Joseph Edus of Brownville.

She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Shearman and a son, Richard Staie, who passed away on 7/6/2016.

Calling hours will be on Friday, June 30th at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a memorial service at Noon. Immediately following memorial, burial will be at the Grove Cemetery in LaFargeville. A celebration of life will be held immediately after burial at the American Legion Post 583 – Dexter, NY. Online condolences may be sent to dexterfuneralhome.com.
