Ronald Herzig

Ronald V. Herzig, 79, of 27997 Cramer Road, Copenhagen, passed July 2, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

He was born on August 21, 1937 in Belfort, NY, son of John and Eva Martin Herzig. He attended school in Croghan.

Mr. Herzig held various positions in the local area. He built silos in Jefferson and Lewis County, owned and operated his own construction company, worked for Lee Lumber Co. in Lowville, Champion Paper Co, Tug Hill Construction, owned and operated R & R Herzig Logging, worked for the Town of Rutland and was co-owner of Finishing Touch Construction in Watertown with his son Ronald.

He was a member of the NRA and Fishing of America. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, going to dirt races as Can Am Speedway, spending time with family and going to camp at Happy Hollow.

Among his survivors are two sons, Rick Herzig, Ronald Herzig and his companion Jaime Short, of Copenhagen, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindy and Garry Platt, Rutland, Lori and Randy Gould, Rutland, Julie Herzig and her companion Tom Robinson, LaFargeville, 13 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Sherwood Herzig, Long Pond, Lonnie and Chris Herzig, Croghan, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jane and Rodney Houppert, Castorland, Sis Call, Clayton, several nieces and nephews.

He married Janet Benware on June 2, 1956 in Belfort, she passed in 2013.

The family will have a Celebration of Life beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8 at the family homestead at 27997 Cramer Road, Copenhagen.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the care of Ronald Herzig 27997 Cramer Road, Copenhagen, NY 13626 to help with funeral expenses.
