Donald R. Gibeau

CARTHAGE- Donald R. Gibeau, 79, Texas Rd., died Thursday afternoon at Samaritan Medical Center after a short illness.

Services for Don will be private and held at a later date.

He was born November 27, 1937 in Carthage to Albert and Irene Peters Gibeau. He attended Carthage High School. He received his GED from the Veteran’s Administration. He served in the US Air Force from 1954- 1957. He married Patricia Kimball April 15, 1955 in the Rectory of St. James Church. After his service in the Air Force, he went to work at Camp Drum(now Fort Drum). He retired in 1998 as manager of the Non- Appropriated Funds Auto Craft Shop.

He was an avid NASCAR fan, he raced stock cars at Watertown, Evans Mills and Lafargeville tracks. After he retired, he and his son Luke bought and operated the Go- Kart track in Gouverneur along with other family members for nine years. He enjoyed having coffee with the boys at the coffeeshop. He was a member of Bassett- Baxter Post 789 and the BPO Elks 1762 in Carthage.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia, Carthage, five children, Bonita Rozewski, Varysburg, NY,

Dave, Daniel (Elaine), Lisa (Dave) Mono Luke (Diana) all of Carthage and two adopted daughters, Jacey (Matt) Bigness, Carthage and Rona Intorcia, Colorado. He has a daughter in law Nancy Gibeau, Carthage, 15 grandchildren, 39 great- grandchildren and three Great- great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by a son Donald Jr in 1983 and a daughter Catherine in 1997. He is also predeceased by his siblings, Buster, Albert Jr, Eleanor Rivers and Doris Homan.

He will be missed greatly by his dog Girl and his cats, Fella (his garage pal) and Mittens (his bed pal)
