Donald J. Cooke

Donald J. Cooke, 78, died Sunday morning at SUNY Upstate, Syracuse where he had been a patient for a few days.

Born July 4, 1939, he was educated and graduated from Evans Mills High School in 1957.

Mr. Cooke married Helen Horeth of Evans Mills on December 1, 1957 at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Following graduation from High School he was employed by his father, George Cooke in his construction business. Later he was an over the road truck driver working for various trucking companies, including his own.

He was a member of the Teamsters Local 687, Philadelphia Lodge 0916 F & AM, Order of the Eastern Star, Bethany Chapter 343 in Black River, Royal Arch Masons Chapter 149, Theresa, LeRay Pamelia Senior Citizens, Jefferson County SPCA, Bethany Lodge 0821 F & AM, Black River and St. Andrews Presbyterian-Episcopal Church, Evans Mills.

Mr. Cooke was very involved in many local charitable organizations, especially the Masonic sponsored veteran programs.

Survivors include members of his late wife’s family and many close friends in the area.

Memorial Services will be 10 am Saturday, July 29, 2017 at St. Andrew’s Shared Ministries Church (Episcopal and Presbyterian) with co-vicars, Rev. Dr. Jerome Wichelns and Rev. Anne Wichelns, officiating and a Masonic Service will be offered by Ron Sinclair. A repast will follow at the Evans Mills Fire Hall. Burial will be at the Evans Mills Cemetery, at the conclusion of the service.
