Jessie Rodee Manitta, 94, of Canton, died August 1, 2017 at United Helpers Maplewood Campus.

Her funeral will be held at Brick Chapel Church on Saturday, August 5th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Michael P. Catanzaro officiating. Burial will be in Brick Chapel Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Friday, August 4th, from 6-8 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home, 21 Park Street, Canton.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Brick Chapel Cemetery, c/o of William Rodee or to a charity of one’s choice.

Jessie was born July 4, 1923 at home on the family farm in Canton.

She was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Etta Aldous Rodee; husband Jerome Manitta; sisters Barbara Laspina, Thelma and Melba Rodee, Marie Zeh, and Phyllis Varco. She is survived by siblings Elaine Nelson, Janet Cook, Bernard (Helen) Rodee, Bill (Marilyn) Rodee, and many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Canton High School in 1940 and SUNY Potsdam in 1944, later earning her Masters’ Degree as a reading specialist. She was an elementary school teacher and reading specialist in St. James, Long Island for 35 years. During her youth she was an active 4-H member and camp counselor. She was also a member of OES Chapter 68. She was a skilled quilter and knitter, gifting her many friends and relatives with her creations. She enjoyed traveling in this country, as well as, Scandinavia, Europe, the Bahamas, and China. Following the death of her husband and her retirement, she purchased a condo in Marco Island, Florida where she enjoyed many winters. In Florida, she served on the Social Committee and led an active life with her many friends in South Seas East. She will be missed by all who knew her.
