LOWVILLE – Jean M. O’Brien, 79, of the River Road, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2017, at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, surrounded by her family.
Jean was born on September 27, 1937, in Lowville, the daughter of the late Eugene Loren and Violet Marie Larkin Monks and graduated from General Martin High School in Glenfield. On January 19, 1957, she was married to Harold F. O’Brien, Jr. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lyons Falls, with Rev. A.R. Isele officiating.
Jean was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville, the Altar & Rosary Society and served on the hospitality committee. After raising her children, she worked outside the home for the Activities Department at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility. She and Harold were caregivers for each of their parents, aunts and others in the Lowville community. Jean especially loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her husband, Harold and their children: Martin O’Brien and his fiancé, Jeanette of Lowville; Patricia and Dennis Nortz of Watertown; John and Sue O’Brien and Stephen and Jo-Anne O’Brien all of Lowville; and Allan O’Brien of Watertown; fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and two daughters-in-law, Jill and Holly; her brother-in-law, Edwin Rounds of SC; her sisters, Joyce Mealus of Brantingham, Gail Wakefield of Lyons Falls, Susan and Mahlon Martin of Boonville and Eugene and Pamela Monks of Lyons Falls.
She was predeceased by twin sons, Paul and Kenneth, grandchildren, Barbara O’Brien and Kyle O’Brien, her sister Carol Rounds and brothers-in-law James Mealus and Joseph Wakefield.
A funeral mass will be said on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Christopher Carrara, pastor officiating, with burial to follow in Lowville Rural Cemetery.
