Rosemary E. Houghton, 89, of 3550 Deer River Road, died Monday, August 14, 2017 at her home while under the care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.
Rosemary was born April 17, 1928 in Watertown, the daughter of the late Ralph and Kathryn (Kearns) Hofer. She was a 1946 graduate of West Carthage High School. She married Walter L. Houghton on June 7, 1947 at the St. James Rectory in Carthage. Walter died on December 1, 1990. Rosemary was a homemaker and loved tending to her gardens and flowers.
She was a member of the St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society, Ave Marie Circle, Denmark Grange and the VFW Auxiliary, Post #6912 of Lowville.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Marianne McLane and Mrs. Ken (Linda) Snyder all of Carthage, one son and his wife: Steven and Gail Houghton of Castorland; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren, a sister: Marilyn Natali of Clayton and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her son, David Houghton, a brother, William Hofer and a nephew John Ablan.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 16 at St. Mary’s Church in Copenhagen with Rev. Donald A. Robinson, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Copenhagen. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home in Carthage.
