EDWARDS – Omar Luis Serrano, age 27, of Edwards, passed away unexpectedly on August 18, 2017 at home. Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Edwards on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Neary officiating. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com. Omar was born on March 25, 1990 in Ceiba, Puerto Rico to Luis Omar Serrano and Melinda (Whitmarsh) Serrano. He graduated from the Edwards-Knox High School in 2008 and attended SUNY Canton. Omar has worked for P.A.C.E.S. Food Services at SUNY Potsdam for the last 2 years. Omar was a very spiritual person who loved life and time spent with his family and friends. One of his greatest loves was for his nephew Laken who he adored and cherished. He loved to draw, take pictures, enjoy the beach, go fishing, get tattoos, and listen to music. His love for family included his mother, Melinda Serrano; her fiancé Todd Vrooman his father, Luis Omar Serrano; his fiancé Diana Lope brother Caleb J. I. Serrano and his fiancé, Sarah Taber and nephew Laken Serrano; maternal grandparents, Shirley Whitmarsh; and Harold Whitmarah (deceased) paternal grandparents, Sara Maldonado Hernandez and Alberto Ramirez Pomales; his step-sister, Lindsey Vrooman and nephew, Laken Serrano. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Ivan Serrano Maldonado, Michael Whitmarsh, Melissa Averill and Harold “Chico” Whitmarsh, Maryann Tyler (deceased). Donations in memory of Omar may be made to a trust fund for his nephew Laken Darryl John Serrano at Northern Federal Credit Union.
