Daniel H. “Bishop” Sheen

pGOUVERNEUR – Daniel H. “Bishop” Sheen, age 82, of Gouverneur, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at his home under the loving care of his family and hospice./ppCalling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. His funeral mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Gouverneur on Saturday, March 19th at 11:00 a.m. with Father Stephen Rocker officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Foxwood Memorial Park in Ogdensburg. /ppDaniel was born on August 12, 1933 in Gouverneur to the late William and Lila (Jobin) Sheen. He graduated from the Gouverneur Central School in 1953./ppHe married Shirley M. Lutz on November 20, 1954 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Timothy Ladden officiating. Shirley passed away on October 23, 1999./ppDanny owned and operated Mrs. Beasley’s Liquor Store for 12 years; Dan Sheen’s Gun Shop from 1962 until present and had worked as a welder for Gouverneur Talc for 19 years. He had also worked at the A&P Store out of high school and Eutectic Corp. as a service technician on welding supplies for 8 years and taught a class at BOCES on how to use the equipment. He was a fun loving man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and a good joke. He was a member of the Gouverneur Elks Lodge, Sons of the American Legion, Kiwanis, a former member of the Gouverneur Investment Club, and the Silver Sands, Pine Tree and Fish Creek Hunting Clubs./ppHis survivors include his son, Daniel J. Sheen and his companion, Valerie Emrich; daughters, Donna and Wesley Besaw, Dianne Sheen, Deanne and Arthur Davis; his longtime companion, Agnes Malady and brothers, Charles Sheen and Thomas Sheen. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews./ppDan is predeceased by a brother, John “Jeff” Sheen, and a sister, Doris Kelly./ppDonations in memory of Dan may be made to the Elks Club Raise the Roof Fund, P.O.
