Kenneth & Geneva Compeau

Geneva M. Compeau, 92, passed September 4, 2017 at the Samaritan Summit Village where she had been a resident. She was born on February 22, 1925 in Ellisburg, NY, daughter of Charles and Carrie Baker Cornell. She attended school in Ellisburg, Adams Center and Brownville Schools. She married Kenneth A. Compeau of Glen Park on October 25, 1941 at the Immaculate Conception Church Parsonage by Rev. Mc Gowen.

Mrs. Compeau worked as a waitress and for Sears as a clerk. The couple moved to Clayton where she worked for C-Way Restaurant as a waitress and also as a cashier at Grand Union. The couple owned and operated Compeau Grocery and Hardware Store in Depauville from 1971 until 1988. They sold the store and moved to New Holland, PA in August of 1988, where she worked as a cashier at People’s Drug Store, now known as CVS until 1992.Among her survivors are three sons and their wives; Lawrence G. and Marilyn Compeau, Philadelphia, NY, Ronald K. and Jean Compeau, Port Crane, NY, John D. and Carol Compeau, Watertown; two daughters and their husbands, Dawn M. and Ronald Fox, West Long, PA, Penny J. and William Adams, Lititz, PA, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Kenneth Compeau passed October 9, 2009 and a son, James (John’s twin) died in infancy. She is also predeceased by all of her brother and sisters. Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service. A graveside service for Mr. and Mrs. Compeau will be held Noon, Sunday September 10th at the Brownville Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.hartandbrucefh.com.
