(Wood) Boeheim, with whom he raised three sons; Fred J. Boeheim and his wife, Lesley (Sherlin); William E. Boeheim and his fiancée, Kathleen Butterfield; and John T. Boeheim and his wife, Kim (Barry). He was the loving grandfather (Poppa) of four young men;

David Frederick Boeheim, Jack Harrington Boeheim,

Adam Lawrence Boeheim, and Randy Allen Sherlin and his wife, Felicia (Hodges) and one young woman;

Ayanna Zipkey-Marquez. He was the great-grandfather

(Grand Powgli) to Isabella

Haleigh Sherlin and Gabriel Liam Sherlin. He is also survived by a sister, Kathleen, and many cousins, nieces, nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Frederick T. and Murial “Sal” (Taylor) Boeheim, and a sister, Patricia Atkins. Fred Boeheim was born on June 14, 1933 in Lyons, NY. After graduating from Lyons High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany, working in encryption, during the Korean conflict. He subsequently attended St. Lawrence University, where he met his life-long partner, Shirley. He was the first descendant of the Boeheim family to forgo the traditional family businesses and, instead, struck out on his own to pursue a career in Accounting. He began his career at the United Helpers Home in Ogdensburg, serving as Treasurer during a pivotal time in the organization’s history as it transitioned from supporting orphaned and indigent children to becoming an institution focused on the needs of Senior Citizens. In 1959, following his graduation from St. Lawrence University, he went to work for Arthur T. Whalen CPA, which subsequently became Whalen, Davey, and Looney. He started working as a clerk, completed his CPA requirements through Clarkson University, and then rose through the ranks until retiring in 1996 as the Senior Partner (although he continued to serve select clients right up until his death). He took great pride in protecting his clients and his employees. Mr. Boeheim was an early and active member of the Ogdensburg Rescue Squad, as well as a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Ogdensburg Lodge #772, where he was a Past Exalted Ruler. He also served as the New York State Vice President for the BPOE. He enjoyed hunting with his sons and many friends at the Stillwater Club in Colton, NY, where he was a member for nearly 40 years. The three seasons Fred lived his life by were tax season, hunting season, and boating season. In retirement he returned to his passion for Skeet shooting with a vengeance, competing around the country and at the World Skeet Championships. His enthusiasm for the sport and his natural skills resulted in him being selected for the First Team, All-American Veteran Skeet Team, an accomplishment he was particularly proud of. He was also an avid fan of Syracuse University Basketball, where his cousin, Jim, has played and coached for more than 50 years. He will be remembered for his quick sense of humor and his enjoyment of a good prank (always accompanied by his jovial laugh). Great memories of time spent boating on the magnificent St. Lawrence River and along the Rideau Canal will always bring comfort to those who loved him. There will be a memorial service for family and friends at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Ogdensburg Rescue Squad.
