Reverend Patrick W. Mundy, age 79, passed into new life with his family at his side on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh, New York. The reception of the body will be at 3:30 pm on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Church in Plattsburgh, New York led by Reverend Monsignor Dennis Duprey, V.F. Calling hours will continue until 8:30 pm concluding with Evening Prayer. Calling hours will continue from 9:30 until 10:30 am on Friday, September 8. At 11:00 am Most Reverend Terry R. LaValley, D.D., J.C.L. will celebrate the Funeral Mass with the priests of the Diocese concelebrating. Following the Mass, Fr. Mundy will be laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Fr. Mundy was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 6, 1937, the son of the late William and Mary (Toman) Mundy. In 1956 he graduated from Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn. He entered the Discalced Carmelite Monastery in Washington, DC, in 1961 and completed his studies at the Seminary of Our Lady of Angels in Albany, New York. Most Reverend Thomas A. Donnellan, J.C.D. ordained Fr. Mundy to the priesthood at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg New York on May 28, 1966. Fr. Mundy served as assistant pastor at the Cathedral, St. Paul’s Church in Black River, St. Anthony’s Church in Watertown, St. John the Baptist Church and St. Mary’s Church in Plattsburgh. He administered St. Louis of France Church in Sciota, St. Joseph’s Church in Coopersville, the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Keesville, St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville, St. Joseph’s Church in Treadwell Mills, St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam and the St. John XXIII Newman Center in Plattsburgh. Fr. Mundy’s first service as pastor came in 1981 when he cared for St. Paul’s Church in Bloomingdale and her mission church, the Church of the Assumption in Gabriels. Beginning in 1995 he served eight years as associate pastor and then pastor in the Ogdensburg Apostolate in Mollendo, Peru. After his return, he served as pastor at St. Brendan’s Church in Keene and St. Margaret’s Church in Wilmington. His final parish assignment was as pastor of St. John the Baptist Church and St. John XXIII Newman Center in Plattsburgh. Fr. Mundy’s service also include ministry to those in prison, the Knights of Columbus, service as Vicar for Religious, on the Council of Priests, as Vicar Forane of the Adirondack Deanery and more. His ministry to the Church spanned forty-five years before his retirement in 2011. Catholic Charites benefitted from Fr. Mundy as well. He served in the Watertown office from 1967 through 1969. Fr. Mundy completed a Masters Degree in Social Work at Fordham University in 1971 and returned to serve as the regional director of the Catholic Charities Plattsburgh office for over a decade. Previously planned as the Catholic Charities Caritas Award recipient along with Reverend Monsignor Joseph G. Aubin, Fr. Mundy’s service will be recognized posthumously in October. His parents and his brothers; William Mundy, Gerard Mundy, Harold Mundy, and Francis Mundy, several nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews predecease Fr. Mundy. He is survived by his twin sister, Ann “Nancy” Raimondi of Queens, New York, a sister-in-law, Helen T. Mundy (Boyle) of Florida, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
